Amazed. Impressed. Stupefied. Yet these adjectives seem to downplay my exact state of mind following the Mystical Lotus 2011 Fashion Show where the use of stunning saree fabrics from India were taken to another level by young talented designers from Polytechnic West's WA Institute of Fashion and Textiles with their jaw-dropping creations of couture pieces with youthful edgy flair. The theme 'Fabric of the Earth' couldn't have been more apropriate to suit the combination of traditional saree textile, global inspiration forming each of the designer's creation, and a stream of unforgettable cultural performances: Odissi dance, samba dance, and the play of African drum and didgeridoo. As if all that is not rewarding enough, the event managed to raise over $20,000 for Down Syndrome WA's Aim High program! Now you understand why the literal translation of my Mytical Lotus post-show ardor alone doesn't justify.
