Nick Verreos Talks Emmy Awards Red Carpet Fashion with NBC4's Ted Chen

Emmy Fashion Talk!
Anchor Couple: Nick Verreos and Ted Chen, KNBC Studios

Sunday morning I woke up bright and early (5AM!!!!!), after arriving home from Chicago and shooting The Victory Project, to head over to NBC Studios to talk Emmy Fashion with Ted Chen on News Raw: Sunday LA. As everyone knows, the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were held this last Sunday and Fashion is always a hot topic! Needless to say, I always have a lot to say on the topic of FASHION so I was happy to join Ted at such an early hour!!
Click below to watch the entire segment and see what I predicted correctly (Lots of beading, embellishments and Black) and what I missed the boat on (The ladies from "GLEE" bringing a youthful vibe to the Red Carpet...NOT!)

62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Who Wore What?: January Jones in Versace Atelier

January Jones in Versace Atelier. Donatella Versace doesn't even show her Atelier Collections any more in Paris and therefore, these gowns are only available for a select few editors, stylists and clients around the world. Jones--whose becoming known as a "Fashion Red Carpet Risk Taker" (who knew?) wore Versace Atelier last year at the Emmys and scored BIG!(I loved that strapless ivory Mermaid gown). This year, she wears a high-low (another trend in gowns) strapless violet-blue gown that would probably retail in the $75,000 range. But she gets it for free--lent of course. She's definitely making a "fashion" Statement here. The WWD fashionista crowd will just "L.O.V.E." it, I am sure. And I have to say, it's kind of growing on me too! Not a fan of the straightened hair though. She looks VERY editorial, but not sure if the entire "Look" translates on the Red Carpet. But she will get photographed that's for sure!

62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards: Who Wore What? Lea Michele in Oscar De La Renta Resort 2011

Another Oscar De La Renta! (Their PR Department was working overtime darlings) This time, Lea Michele, star of "Glee" wears Oscar De La Renta Resort 2011 midnight blue strapless silk taffeta and organza ruffled gown. I like the gown, but not so much on her. I think the hair is wrong (too severe) and she should have lost the necklace. It just ages her. But these actresses have so many jewelry companies lending them multi-million dollars jewels--via their stylists and agents--they feel compelled to "Thank Them" by wearing them all.

2010 Tony Awards Red Crapet: Nick Verreos "sizes" the FASHION Up!

Theater FASHION Queen...2010 Tony Awards Co-Host Kristin Chenoweth in Tony Ward Couture

OK, I admit it, I am a "Theater Queen"!! I love me some Musicals, Broadway and the Plays! Well, my partner David, who was an Undergrad at UCLA majoring in Theater has really exposed me to this world, and let's just say, I have grown to respect and enjoy "the Theater"....with a Capital "T". This year's 2010 Tony Awards had it's moments:
What was up with that kiss between Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth? It was cute when Will and Grace co-star Megan Mullally did it...but kinda nasty this time with Kristin...just sayin'. And of course, it was great seeing Miss Raquel Welch (above) in all her--to steal a line from Project Runway Season 4 Winner Christian Siriano, "Hot Tranny Mess", in a fabulous way of course. I expected nothing short of that from a DIVA like her. I still, was waiting for that "Chita Rivera-meets-Liza Minelli-Tony Award Moment", so alas I was disappointed. But not in terms of the Red Carpet Fashion:
My Best Dressed was Miss Dolce & Gabbana Make-Up Spokesperson and actress Scarlet Johansson, who actually DID NOT wear Dolce & Gabbana (is their a loop-hole in that multi-million dollar contract?) and wore...a gorgeous Elie Saab matte paillette siren gown from his Fall 2010 Pret-A-Porter Collection... as seen above; it reminded me of a gown I designed last year for my NIKOLAKI Spring 2009 Collection:
Black Matte Paillette One Shoulder Gown, NIKOLAKI, worn by Lisa Blades
Another "Nick V Fave" was Glee's Lea Michele in a Orange-Yellow silk Zac Posen creation. She looked great, lots of drama but not overwhelming like that Oscar de la Renta ball gown she wore at the 2010 Golden Globes.
I also loved Cate Blanchett's silver-gray Armani Prive suit. This is COUTURE darlings, as seen above on model Kim Noorda...all $30,000 worth of it! (Well, Cate didn't pay a dime kiddies) but I respect and honor the fact that Miss Cate gave them COUTURE--and looked great in it! Notice how it was changed slightly for Cate: No Half-moon Brooch/fastening and the break-point (yes, I'm throwing out Fashion Terminology kids!) of the jacket was raised.
Catherine Zeta-Jones--who was a big winner last night, looked incredibly elegant in her Versace Atelier powder blue gown.I also loved Lucy Liu in Marchesa, but Katie Holmes was a miss in Armani Prive (what's with that too-short length, was there a FLOOD in NYC that night?) and Naomi Watts looked incredibly chic in RM by Roland Mouret, although her Hair and Make-up did not live up to her overall look (above). She looked as if she just finished 30 minutes on the tread mill!I was "on the fence" with Jada Pinkett-Smith and her organza blood-red Marchesa cocktail dress. Her body is RIDUNCULOUS!!! Seriously. But the dress was a bit Rose-Petals-Swallowing-Her. I should just be happy she didn't wear this Marchesa concoction:Paula Abdul, who , well, how shall I say this....usually doesn't make the "Best Dressed" List, looked great in this Tony Ward Couture mermaid-shaped embroidered gown. Tony Ward, in case you were wondering, is a Lebanese Designer who is based in Rome--not Madonna's boy-toy-photographer-model cutie.
In terms of the WORST: Bless her heart, Linda Lavin just shot up to the top in this copper taffeta suit a Mother-of-The-Bride from New Jersey would think was cute. Maybe cute for your daughter's wedding but NOT for the Tony Awards.
Finally, let me give it up to the boys: Glee's hottie professor, actor Matthew Morrison, took the "Best Dressed Male" prize for me. Very handsomessssssss!
Well, kiddies, that's it for my Tony Awards Red Carpet "Nick V" Showdown...until next time...

See who we thought were the BEST and WORST Dressed of the night!

Monday March 8th 8pm/7c on TVGN

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2010

Well, it seems that one of the biggest winners of the night was Elie Saab! He had numerous dresses on the Red Carpet tonight. When I saw this gown on the Runway in January I wondered if somebody might be gutsy enough to wear it.

While I applaud her for thinking "outside the box" (rarely do you see a print on the Red Carpet), the dress definitely worked better when she presented on stage as opposed to walking the carpet. But kudos to Rachel for taking a risk!

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2010

Anna looked beautiful in this Elie Saab Haute Couture Gown from his Spring 2010 Collection. It was a dress I knew I would see on the Red Carpet. She stated that it was not her 1st choice and was the "back up" dress.
It seems she made the right choice by switching to this delicate chiffon gown, I only wish she hadn't worn such a pale color. I feel the blue dress from the same collection might have "popped" a bit more on the Red Carpet.

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz in Oscar De La Renta Fall 2010

For Cameron Diaz, this Oscar De La Renta Gown from his Fall 2010 Collection could almost be considered a safe choice. She usually goes for styles that are a bit edgier and more directional, but there is absolutely no denying that Cameron looked absolutely amazing in this gown.

The hair was a bit more "styled" than it usually is and along with her beautiful make up it was the perfect accent to this truly glamorous dress.

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron in Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2010

Charlize Theron wore a modified version of the above Gown from John Galliano's Spring 2010 Christian Dior Haute Couture Collection. While Charlize always looks fantastic, I think this is a bit of a miss.

Somehow in changing the dress and attempting to make it more "Red Carpet appropriate", it lost it's power and became a "dumbed down version" of the original. I kind of wish she would have just worn the dress the way it was designed (maybe just slightly modifying the Bow).

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez in Armani Prive Spring 2010

Jennifer Lopez certainly got it right tonight in this Armani Prive Spring 2010 Gown. She will definitely be on most people's Best Dressed List and she deserves it.

It was amazing how the dress was so delicate and light from the front but when you see her from behind it was tight and structured showing off that signature JLo bootie!

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2010

Zoe Saldana is definitely giving you DRAMA in this Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2010 Gown! This is the kind of dress you want to see on the Oscar Red Carpet and Saldana did not disappoint.

It is a lot of dress with the Degrade Tulle Hem, Duchesse Silk Satin Skirt and Beaded Bodice, but Zoe knows how to handle such a big dress and definitely makes it work.

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2010

You have to give Sarah Jessica Parker points for always pushing the "fashion envelope". As I have said before I get so excited to recognize a dress from the Couture Collections and say "Oh No She Didn't!!! She's wearing....."

I would have rather seen Maggie Gyllenhaal wear the blush pink dress from this collection.

This will definitely not be a favorite of many people, but she will definitely be on many peoples "Lists" tomorrow whether Good or Bad; and that is always a good thing!

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa Fall 2010

Sandra chose this Marchesa Gown for her "big night". It seems that Marchesa is having a big night of their own with several actresses wearing their beautiful gowns!

This wouldn't have been my choice for Sandra, but she looks beautiful. I love the retro hair and strong red lips. This light gold gown with lace bodice (they removed the bow on the shoulder: thank goodness) is a softer style than Bullock usually wears and it almost makes her look vulnerable, which I think is a good thing...especially if she wins!

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried in Armani Prive Spring 2010

We were sure to see a dress from this Armani Prive Spring 2010 Collection. It was one of Armani's strongest collections in years. Here Amanda Seyfried chose one of the standouts from the collection. I love the stiff seamless corset with the beautiful and dramatic drape on the side. Although the color might wash her out a bit when you see the dress in the close-up it is stunning!

What Will the Nominees Wear?! Nick Verreos makes Predictions and Suggestions: Part 2

After my 1st post giving Predictions and Suggestions of what some of the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actresses should wear to the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, I couldn't resist but finish out both groups and give my Nick "two cents" about what I think these beautiful and talented ladies should be wearing for their big night.
Mo'nique:
Mo'nique loves a White, Nude or Creme colored Strapless Gown. She has worn a version of this color and style time and time again. And why not?, it looks great on her. This definitely falls under the category of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". And since she is basically assured to win the Best Supporting Actress statute, she definitely needs to make sure she is wearing a dress she will be happy to see in photos for years to come.

My suggestion is to stick with what works, but take it up a notch! This Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Gown from his Officer's Muse Spring Summer 2010 Collection would be perfect for her. It offers all the things Mo'nique loves in a gown but certainly says "I'm a Oscar Winner!"

Anna Kendrick:
Is it just me or does Anna Kendrick seem to get "lost in the mix"? Between Carey Mulligan and Vera Farmiga, sometimes I find myself saying "now which one is Anna Kendrick?" In order to put a stop to this on the Red Carpet, Kendrick needs to set herself apart from the other ladies. My suggestion is that she goes Old Hollywood Glamour. This Gown from Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2010 Collection would give her a sexy Rita Hayworth vibe. With it's black beaded overlay and nude lining with that extra high slit, this dress will be sure to make Anna a Sultry Siren at the Awards.

Meryl Streep:
Meryl Streep is the Queen of Hollywood. She has received 16 Academy Award nominations, winning two, and 25 Golden Globe nominations, winning seven, more nominations than any other actor in the history of either award! DIVA! I would love for her to embrace this title and really "Bring It" to the Oscars. Letting everybody know "I have arrived, Bow to me!"

In this wasp-waist Christian Dior Gown from John Galliano's Spring 2010 Haute Couture Collection, there would be no denying that Streep is the Actress to be revered by all the rest.

Penelope Cruz:
After winning the Best Supporting Actress Award last year, Cruz is again nominated this year for her role in "Nine". Last year she wore a Vintage Balmain Gown from 1950 and it was the perfect choice for her. She looked classic and timeless.

This year I would suggest a gown from the Versace Atelier Collection. Almost every gown from this collection has made it's way to the Red Carpet, but this dress has yet to be worn. I think it would be the perfect choice for Penelope because it evokes the feeling of last year's dress while adding a bit of sexiness and a splash of color.

Gabourey Sidibe:
And finally, for Gabourey Sidibe I have chosen a gown from my NIKOLAKI collection. I love that Gabby embraces her size and I have noticed that she has worn several draped jersey dresses and has looked fantastic in them. I think she should take a page from Mo'nique's book and wear a lighter color to really set off her beautiful skin color. She would look fantastic in this Lemon Yellow Silk Jersey Draped Grecian Goddess Gown. Whether she takes home the statute or not, Gabby would surely be a fashion winner!

What Will the Nominees Wear?! Nick Verreos makes Predictions and Suggestions

In honor of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, I have decided to make a few suggestions on what I think some of the beautiful nominees for the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories might wear for their big night.

Now I know that these decisions have been made weeks, if not months prior to today and many of these Top Actresses have Gowns Custom Designed for their big night, but I thought it would be fun to play a bit of a guessing game as to what these actresses might choose.

Let's take a look at a few of the nominees and make a few suggestions for what they should wear to the most important night of both Film and Fashion!

Sandra Bullock:
Sandra Bullock is the front runner for the Best Actress Oscar and the entire fashion world is clamoring to dress her. Photos of Sandra will be shown across the world and pictures of Bullock in tomorrow nights gown will most likely become iconic.

I think she needs to make a bold choice with clean lines that will stand the test of time and she should definitely wear a strong color. My suggestion is this crimson red Marchesa gown from their Resort 2010 Collection. I'm sure the gown she will actually wear will be Custom Couture by a European design house, but this dress would be equally as beautiful on her.

Maggie Gyllenhaal:
Maggie is a Fashionista with a capital "F"!!! She has made strong and often unusual choices throughout her entire career and we should expect nothing but the same from her for the Oscars. My suggestion for her is this Blush Pink Chanel Haute Couture Gown from Karl Lagerfeld's Spring 2010 Collection. Only someone as risky as Gyllenhaal could pull off this fashion-forward gown and she would be wise to make another daring choice. Whether people love it or hate it, everyone will be talking about what she wore the next morning!

Helen Mirren:Helen Mirren is Hollywood Royalty and is also known as having one of the best bodies in town! Although this dress by Carolina Herrera for Fall 2010 is not a risky choice it is a rich, luxurious color and fabric and is figure flattering while having an ingenious chiffon embroidered overlay that offers just the right amount of coverage.

Carey Mulligan:
Carey is this seasons "it girl". She is the ingenue that everyone wants to dress this awards season. And it looks like she is having a great time with all the fashion and fashion choices that suddenly seem to have "fallen into her lap".

While she might also be able to pull off one of the gowns from the Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2010 Collection, I have chosen for her the bright lemon yellow chiffon gown from the Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2010 Collection. The striking color along with the softness of the chiffon drape will make her a standout on the Red Carpet. Also, her new pixie haircut will really highlight the asymmetry of the neckline.

Vera Farmiga:
And finally, for Vera I have chosen a gown from my NIKOLAKI Collection (hey, why not?! This is my blog predictions after all!). I think she would look stunning in this Celedon Green silk Zibeline Column Gown with asymmetrical strap and back cascade detail. I think the silhouette would look fantastic on her and the strap and back detail would add just enough drama for the biggest night of her life....and Vera, if you have a wardrobe malfunction tomorrow, call me! I have the perfect dress waiting for you!
