Nick Verreos Hosts Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM Los Angeles Fall 2010 Open House!

Emcee...FIDM "Red Carpet" Commentator and a Panel of Alumni...

Open House Mic: Nick Verreos Emcees FIDM Fall Open House LA Campus

This last Saturday, as the Official Spokesperson for my alma mater, the Fashion Institute of Design& Merchandising/FIDM, I had the pleasure of visiting the LA Campus' Fall Open House. FIDM's Open House is when prospective students get to visit FIDM, learn about all the 20 creative majors, get advice from FIDM Alumni and Admissions Counselors, and much more.

Panel of FIDM Grads and student, FIDM Fall Open House LA Campus

One of the "much more" was meeting me--and three FIDM Grads and one currently-enrolled student, at a Panel Discussion which I hosted. The Grads had received their degrees in different majors including Apparel Manufacturing and Product Development. One of them was actually a student of mine, I am proud to say, Malorie Dempster (third from the left in black jumpsuit) who recently competed in the DECA FIDM Runway Challenge). The one current student (far left) was in the Fashion Design Major. Each spoke of their experience at FIDM and where they are working now.

We also held a Q & A, a mini "Nick Verreos FIDM Open House Red Carpet " session where I pointed out the especially stylin' prospective students--and their moms and dads! Afterward, I stayed around for photos with all in attendance.

Can you See Me: I am somewhere in that group, posing and taking photos with everyone "in line". Once again the FIDM LA Open House was a great success; I had a great time with all the perspective new students and of course, the loving parents! Hope to see you in one of my classes (the students that is!).

Continuing the FIDM Tour with your Guide, Nick Verreos...Computer Couture: The Computer/Study Lab Room at FIDM, Downtown LA Campus

"We're walking...we're walking..." Isn't that what we hear from those cheesy tour guides through The Louvre? Well, my Tour of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising is more of a fun video tour with no big paddle or brightly colored umbrella being held up (maybe I should try and hold up some pink taffeta?). FIDM's updated website has all these new videos up--starring who else? Me, of course! Here are two new ones, in case you might have missed them. Coffee Tie Dye: FIDM Grad and Season 5 Project Runway Contestant Kelli Martin and her design

One features FIDM grad Kelli Martin's (who was on Season 5 of Project Runway) winning "Gristedes Challenge" dress and the other is of me hanging out at the actual Sewing Room where Project Runway Season 6 contestants sewed ALL their garments!!!

There are lots more--so be sure to check them out HERE --And see you next time I continue the FIDM Tour. Until then...as Tim Gunn says "Carry On!"

FIDM Three Days of Fashion: Los AngelesGreen Microphone, Green Pants: Nick Verreos chats with host Blaine Vedros, and over 200 students at FIDM LA "3 Days Of Fashion"

Well, I just can't get enough of model Heather Chantal Jones! As you may have read in a previous posting, last week I was invited to San Diego to make a special appearance at the FIDM San Diego Campus and Cycle 9 "America's Next Top Model", Heather--I call her Chantal--Jones, drove down from Los Angeles, and joined me in the fun. This last Friday, neither her nor I had much to travel (since we are both Angelenos) when we reprised our 'Three Days of Fashion" appearance in the sunny Los Angeles Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising/FIDM Campus.Next Up For Bid, A Turquoise Silk Jersey (20 yrds of it!) gown with Grecian draping, copper sequins and built-in bustier: Nick Verreos and model Heather Chantal Jones at FIDM LA "3 Days of Fashion"

Being that this event was in LA, everything is done on a "grander scale", and when I showed up to the stage, there were over 200 kids, plus parents and school administrators, crowding the expansive 5Th Floor "Conference Room". When I made my entrance , it seemed like EVERY student had their cell phones perched atop their heads taking photos. I was nearly blinded by the flashbulbs and trust me, this doesn't happen very often. Not for a little ol' designer like myself, and certainly not for a "Project Runway" reality show alumn.

I did a fun interview with cutie host Blaine Vedros (love him!) and then, of course, I brought out Chantal for some runway modeling of my NIKOLAKI collection. She wore the "Carrie Ann Inaba" silk jersey gown (which Carrie Ann wore on last season's "Dancing With The Stars") as well as other gowns. We even captured video of the event.
Below are the videos. Enjoy!
